In recent years, shale exploration and development has become more valuable due to technology advancements in drilling and increasing gas prices. Companies have flocked to shale plays to capitalize on the vast amounts of natural gas that can be extracted. While shale drilling has proven valuable, successfully implementing communications systems to the remote and rural areas remains a challenge. Lack of existing infrastructure, mountains, forests, harsh winter climates and other terrain hurdles have prohibited putting in place a communications infrastructure to the field.
